What we saw, sniffed or chewed this weekend

Friday, May 14th, 2010

Lily discovered the wonderful (?) taste of dandelion puff balls. She chewed at least six of them during our morning walk.

This tulip reminds me of Audrey 2 from "Little Shop of Horrors". It seems to be whining, "Feed me! Feed me!"

Sunday, May 16th, 2010
On this beautiful evening at 7:00 pm, Lily and I headed out into the splendid sunlight. She was very happy and full of energy. There were lots of other doggies out for and evening stroll and Lily was full of smiles.
Look at this gorgeous green!
These sunlit maple leaves reminded me of stained glass.

A Simple Thing

Thursday, May 13th, 2010
A beautiful cross-section! I'm so glad I got to see it before it finally fell apart. Thank you, Lily, for showing it to me.

Scary thing

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

Lily is very good about letting me know if she finds something suspicious or untrustworthy. Like this...

However, on Wednesday, May 12th, she approved of this tree.

Still Frosty

Monday, May 10th, 2010

If you look at this photo....

and this photo...
you might think it was comfortably warm outside on this sunny morning...You would be wrong! Notice the frost at the base of this dandelion puff.

Oh well. We still had fun together, right Lily? Even though I wore my down parka. In May. Sheesh.

Mother's Day Happiness

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

The temperature with the windchill was a RIDICULOUS -3 degrees, so when my delightful husband offered to walk Lily on Mother's Day, I accepted and sank back under the covers. Since I have no photos of the day, look at the fabulous cards my clever kids made me!

I am a very lucky mama.

Catching up...

I wasn't feeling well this week so I'm late posting these photos.

I spotted these flowers on Tuesday, May 4th. The day was an overcast and cool (2 degrees when we left the house).
On Wednesday, May 5th, the sun warmed us up again and Lily and I paused by these happy yellow faces.

Happy girl!

On Thursday, May 6th, 2010, Lily started off our walk very relaxed.
Midway through our walk, Lily was trotting along the sidewalk, sniffing at grass and flowers, when we came to a house with a brown lab sitting out front. The dog's leash was tied to an empty running stroller but the owner was not outside. The dog was sitting quietly, unmoving. Lily seemed surprised by his presence and immediately started to growl and bark at him. Lily loves meeting other dogs and becomes extremely excited if she sees or smells any dog within a block away. Her tail will wag quickly and she will usually go right down to the ground in submission to whatever dog she sees, as if to say, "You're the boss. Let's play, boss!". Not this time...
I quickly led Lily across the street and told her to hush, but she continued to turn back and growl and bark intermittently as we distanced ourselves. The dog was very still, and made to noise in response. I have to say that we have only heard Lily growl 2 other times. Once she growled at the back door in the evening. We assumed some animal that we couldn't see was crossing through the yard. The other time was when a sketchy looking man walked into the park, and although he was still a fair distance away, Lily began to growl and the hair on her back stood up. I'm not sure what she knew about the silent brown lab, but I trusted her instincts.

Rain again.

And the rain continued on Saturday, May 8th.

New pine needles are so soft. They look like little green paws!

This week I had a migraine for a few days and wasn't able to update daily. Here are a few photos.

Rain, rain, rain. Beautiful Rain.

Monday, May 4th, 2010

This picture captures just how drenched we were this morning. The nice thing about the rain was that it was warm, and it made a lovely drumming sound on our eavestrough as we stepped out the back gate. We walked for a good twenty minutes before turning back home. I had the African prayer song "Rain Rain Rain" in my head as we splashed our way home.

So much to see!

Sunday, May 3rd, 2010
This morning was truly gorgeous! The sun was shining and for the first time this year, I wore a short-sleeve t-shirt outside! Lily and I took a different route this morning so that she could see and smell some new places.

This spectacular frittelaria is in my friend's garden.

Lily was very happy to be exploring in the sunshine today.

I love finding symmetry and balance in nature.

Spring is definitely here at last!

Calm and content

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

Lily loved hanging out in the park today.

The birds were singing and Lily was very interested in what they had to say.

I love these red tree blossoms!

Wake up to colour!

Friday, April 30th, 2010

It was cool and cloudy at 7:45am, as you can see from these pictures. Lily was sleepy but still ready for some exploring. We found this wonderful splash of red very close to home.

Lily was very happy amid all this colour. You can see she was still a little dozy!
